Welcome to Kershaw County's Woodward Field

Established in 1929 on land donated by Jell-O magnate Ernest Woodward, this field has witnessed nearly a century of American aviation history — from its crucial role as a WWII Army Air Corps training base to its present as Kershaw County's active general aviation gateway.

Today, Woodward Field is home to 26 based aircraft, flight training operations, and a community of aviators who continue the legacy of the 6,000+ pilots who trained here during World War II.

ABOUT THE AIRFIELD

95 Years of Living Aviation History

In 1929, Jell-O magnate Ernest Woodward donated 160 acres of Camden land, planting the seed for what would become one of the Southeast's most significant aviation facilities.

During World War II, Woodward Field trained over 6,000 Army Air Corps cadets — including the captain of the legendary Memphis Belle. The field's original WWII-era hangar still stands today, a tangible connection to that pivotal era.

Today, Woodward Field operates as Kershaw County's public-use general aviation airport under the stewardship of the Kershaw County Airport Commission. With 26 based aircraft and thousands of annual operations, the field remains as vital as ever.
